As usual, we don't know where to go for lunch. Suddenly, my beautiful wife remembered Pecel Merapi. So we decided to give it a shot. The place is surprisingly clean and quite friendly. The staff are pleasantly nice. For first visit, we ordered a portion of Pecel and 25 pcs of Choi Pan. The Pecel is very nice considering that I normally am not into peanut sauces. I was very satisfied with the Pecel plate on our table. The Choi Pan were also very nice. The skin is soft and oily and the fillings are well seasoned. We ordered all 3 varieties (bengkoang, kucai and talas). (Note: sorry no English names. Too lazy too search.)

Their best sellers are Pecel Pontianak and Sate. But they also sell many different menu like Pempek, Egg Tart, etc. Almost same with Javanese Pecel just with addition of Dried Shrimp (ebi), Pempek also quite good come in small portion. The food size here is small, almost like snacking place. Their service is quite okay, waiting time is quick, price is good. Value for money.

Good price point and generous portioning, there’s a very good quality control on the food here and there is a good variety of sides and snacks too. The Sup Iga here falls more towards light, it’s not heavily salted like how other restaurants usually serve them so for me this is mid, but the green chilli condiment really saved the entire dish. Sambal here is quite good, kicks very well and elevate most dishes I ordered. The satay here is also executed very well, good grilling skill since there’s barely any burnt and the meat remains tender. Their fried tofu here is my favorite sides, extremely huge cuts and it comes with a sambal. It might be crowded during peak hours, but not to the point where there will be waiting list.

So far I know this resto is a well-known restaurant that specializes in traditional Pontianak cuisine. Established in 1973, it has earned a reputation for its authentic flavors and commitment to quality. This time, some friends asked me to join and enjoy in exploring comfort food, and Choipan Singkawang at Merapi Restaurant in North of Jakarta. For me, it may not fully capture the authentic flavors of Singkawang, the dishes still deliver a satisfying taste experience that warms the soul, but the flavor itself are enjoyable enough. With a bit of refinement to enhance authenticity, this menu has the potential to become a favorite spot for anyone craving delicious comfort food. It's a delightful journey for the palate, and I look forward to seeing how it evolves! #comfortfood #localtaste #pontianakcuisine

Sate kuah half beef, half chicken was great, top meals! Had pecel too, with banana's heart. But the peanut sauce similar to the sate had. Chai kue bengkoang and kucai, tasted just so-so, their sambal sauce quite bland.

Never ending crowd but worth with the food and price. I like how pecel merapi and sate ayam Pontianak bring variety to a light taste lovers (i think it is non-msg?). Overall has certain sweetness and subtle savory taste. Unique peanut sauce of satay a watery sauce with touch of sweetness and spices (nutmeg and cloves?) i like how everything is blended with oranges? For choipan, a reasonable price and taste is light, not bad. Just the ebi alil bit overwhelming

This place sell Pontianak authentic food such as Beef Satay Soup, Pecel, Choipan, even Bikang Cake, Tart Susu, Pengkang etc. Food are delicious & taste originaly. Choipan have 3 variant, must try all, pour the sambal sauce it makes taste so good. Beef Satay Soup standard for me. Pecel delicious. Pengkang is Ponti style of lemper, but inside is fermented dried shrimp (ebi) and i love it. Tart susu also good but better serve cold for me. Bikang cake ok.. Ponti style Kolak also good. Price wise worth the taste & quality of food. Payment can use card. Place typical family simple restaurant, quite spacious, clean.

Many people like this place, it was crowded even around 2 pm. Luckily we got seats. The waiting time from order until serving was quite long, around 15 mins. Maybe coz they are preparing for delivery food too. The food was great and also the traditional cake, especially for the people who enjoys Pontianak cuisines.
